EDUCATION
"Education is for life and not for mere living. End of all education is character and end of all wisdom is freedom."
- Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba
VALUES-BASED INTEGRAL EDUCATION
CARING FOR THE NATION
THROUGH EDUCATION
As an institution committed to moulding students to be socially responsible, academically brilliant and fundamentally of strong character, we believe valuesbased education is vital to human and economic development. So, alongside enabling our little learners to eke a living, we also equip them with skills to make life worthwhile and meaningful.
That the students leave the portals seeing themselves as contributors to the society, inspires us to stay invested in this cause. And when we look back after handing over each batch to the society, we realise that this process of teaching and learning has touched and transformed us as much as it has the students. May be that's why they say when one teaches, two learn. This explains our hurried expansion to integrate more children into the formal schooling system, but also the criticality of it.
If 37 Institutions in 27 Campuses and 20 districts have been possible in a short time, this is because many individuals across the globe have made benevolence their bent of mind, parting with their rainy-day funds to bestow children with the wealth of education.
Until the last child from our country's villages receives education and her children do too, we will keep at it.
This will be our story.

THE SYSTEM OF EDUCARE
'SAA VIDYAA YAA VIMUKTAYE'
- TRUE EDUCATION IS FOR LIBERATION!
What does it mean?
Though there exist several kinds of education be it literature, science, mathematics or even sports, music, and other art forms, the best and highest among all types of education is, 'Atma Vidya' (spiritual education), which is the knowledge of one's Atma or Self. Since all these various types and forms of education have emerged from one divine source, therefore the ultimate goal irrespective of the education that one pursues, should be to learn 'Atma Vidya' - knowledge of one's divine self.
Sri Sathya Sai Baba says, "You may be a doctor, but you have certainly not created the plants or chemicals from which medicines are made or even the body that you operate upon. You may be an engineer, but you have not created the five elements of nature that you use to construct and build. You may be a farmer, but you have not created the seed. You may be a painter, but you have not created the colours. You may be a musician, but you have not created the sound. Finally, you may be a Guru or teacher, but you have not created knowledge! You are only using all that which has been created by God, the supreme creator! This logic is testimony to the existence of God. Man, only learns how to utilise these and takes pride in his achievements, but unfortunately does not exert any effort to understand the creator. True education is to know the Creator!"
'Atma Vidya' or 'Self Knowledge' is more important than all kinds of worldly education. Education is for life and not for living. Through the system of educare, human values that are latent in all are drawn out into the open to be translated into purposeful action for, education is not mere accumulation of knowledge but must consummate into selfless actions. Education that originates from the knowledge of the within finds its fulfilment in the actions without. This is the chief purpose of Sri Sathya Sai Baba in establishing educational institutions - to impart worldly education with greater emphasis on spiritual education for the redemption of one's own self, and thereby welfare of the society - Atmano Mokshartham, Jagat Hitaaya Cha!
A VISIONARY
LATE SRI MADIYALA NARAYAN BHAT
Late Sri Madiyala Narayan Bhat, fondly called as Anna, was the founding father and patron of the Alike and Muddenahalli institutions. He was a visionary, a patriot, social worker, and a spiritual seeker, and nurtured an aspiration to set up free schools all over Karnataka that would impart values based education. Sri Narayan Bhat established the Loka Seva Vrinda in 1960. He established Sri Sathya Sai Loka Seva High School at Alike, his birthplace, a remote village in Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka State way back in 1961. Later, he also established another Institution at Muddenahalli (in Chikkaballapura District), the birthplace of Bharatratna Dr M Vishveshwaraya, the famous engineer-statesman.
American author, Edith Wharton said, "There are two ways of spreading light. To be the candle or be the mirror that reflects it." Sri Narayan Bhat was that mirror, and his prayers seeking Baba's guidance on the running of these schools for social welfare were answered with love and grace. In April 1973, when Baba visited Manipal in Karnataka, Sri Narayan Bhat requested Him to name the campus at Muddenahalli. The name 'Sathya Sai Grama' was then given.
INTEGRATED EDUCATION: FREE OF COST
The saplings in Alike and Muddenahalli were just beginning to blossom when tragedy struck in 1977, with Sri Narayan Bhat's passing. Baba stepped in to take over the reins of these two schools. The year was 1978, and it gave birth to Sri Sathya Sai Loka Seva Trust with Baba at the helm.
Sri Narayan Bhat's aspirations to establish a school that impart integrated education free of cost in each of the district in the State of Karnataka are being fulfilled by the unseen hand of Baba, and executed by a highly dedicated team of men and women, and the focus remains to be the holistic development of each child.
DEVOTION, DISCIPLINE AND LOVE
A MEANS OF TRANSFORMATION
It is said there are two goals of education - 'Jeevanaupadhi', education that imparts knowledge and skills to lead lives, and 'Jeevitha Paramavadhi', God realisation, which is the ultimate goal of life. Students at the Sri Sathya Sai educational institutions are exposed to a unique learning model that isn't just limited to classrooms. From hostel rooms to dining halls to the playground, students are exposed to values and lessons everywhere - education with a heart. Students are engaged at an intellectual, emotional, logical, ethical and spiritual level, inspiring and prodding them to always listen to, and act from the wisdom that's latent within.
Therefore, the unique feature of these Institutions is to impart a sound, liberal, high quality 'man-making' education on modern lines, blending it with the noble values of Indian heritage in an atmosphere of devotion, discipline, love and mutual cooperation.
Sri Sathya Sai Baba, considered education, not as accumulation of information but rather a means of transformation.
FREE VALUES-BASED INTEGRAL SYSTEM OF EDUCATION
Baba's integral system of education is contributing its mite to the cause of nation building by creating strong individuals with wonderful synthesis of competent Hands, brilliant Head and a compassionate Heart, the 3H formula - the trinity of which is a true human being to Him. To further the cause of nation building, the alumni from Alike and Muddenahalli, started the 'Sri Sathya Sai Saraswathi Education Trust' a unique social venture in October 2011, and the first campus, Sri Sathya Sai Vidyaniketanam was established at Gulbarga district in June 2012.
As of September 30, 2022 over 5,000 boys and girls from the rural strata of society are benefitting from free values-based integral education at top notch architectural edifices, absolutely free of cost across 37 Institutions in 27 campuses and 20 districts in Karnataka.

'RIGHT OF EDUCATION TO ALL'
EACH ONE EDUCATE ONE (E1E1)
Education is the fulcrum of a meaningful life in this modern era. The mission of Sri Sathya Sai Baba is to transform individuals through values-based education, with an emphasis on character moulding along with academic excellence. These educational institutions are being established to impart the eternal truth of Atma Vidya or Self knowledge, and will redefine the 'Right of Education' to all, in times to come.
The alumni of the Sri Sathya Sai educational institutions who were taught both 'Loka Vidya' and 'Atma Vidya' under the guidance of their dedicated teachers, and more importantly the teachings of Baba, have come together to share their inspirational education by replicating such idealistic and value based educational institutions in rural Karnataka. Alumni and alumnae of Sathya Sai Institutions established by Baba have also joined in this noble mission - the 'Children for Sathya Sai', beneficiaries of this free values-based education, humbled by this unique gift bestowed on them, have set out to shoulder the responsibility, this same gift of education, to their younger sisters and brothers who join the Sathya Sai educational institutions through the initiative 'Each One Educate One' (E1E1).
Baba's system of education that is founded on His philosophy of human values, completely free and accessible to all, irrespective of caste or creed, race or religion, gender or geography, is only growing leaps and bounds under His invisible yet unmistakable presence, beyond the physical realms of existence.
